Thankfully, many of the sites have realized this and decided to do something about it. They've installed software on their sites that can help you find someone who matches your interests.
Many times you'll be asked a series of questions when you're writing your profile, and that will help to determine potential couples. They might be questions as to your personal preferences in the couple arrangement (2 males and a female, 2 females and a male, two couples, etc.).
It's kind of like when you buy a book, there's a list of books that other similar buyers have picked up. Same thing, just with personal profiles.
Now, this isn't to say that this method isn't without flaws, because it does have them. If the other couple isn't truthful, then you can be matched up with someone that just isn't compatible.

When you see that message waiting for you, the anticipation begins. Will this couple be the 'one'?
Start by talking to them about what you're looking for--no need to beat around the bush. Get to know each other's desires and figure out if you're compatible. If not, move on.
There shouldn't be any games at this point. You need to be able to trust each other. And if you feel like anything is 'off' for some reason, then trust your instincts and end the communication.
